Share your knowledge… How do you prepare and organize for the sale?

All four sales are coming up FAST!! Every year I say that I am going to be more organized, more prepared than the year before…and every sale is the same rush to get everything done! I am such a procrastinator! I have genius ideas on what to do to make things easier on myself but I just never get around to it. So you are probably thinking that my procrastination can’t be THAT bad, right? But it is! I am that consignor that waits until the very last minute to enter items and I am tagging and organizing the day of my drop-off appointment.  It is so bad that I went into labor with my third child the night before the deadline to enter items and I had to finish before I would even think about going to the hospital and I finished tagging and dropped off the day after we came home from the hospital!

So I am looking for organization tips from all of you other moms. Do you start a tote of items throughout the year? Hang everything as you put it in? How do you decide what you want to sell? Do you tackle your totes at once or sell one size/gender at a time? What tips have you picked up from other moms? Share your knowledge! This is a moms helping moms sale so lets help each other out! :)

My favorite “tip” that I picked up from other moms is marking your hangers, whether with ribbon or colorful duct tape, it makes pick up a little easier.  You still should look through everything just in case an item falls off the hanger and needs a new one but it has saved me so much time! Another great idea I saw at the spring sale at the Croton location was a consignor who came to presale with a storage tote on wheels.  She had attached wheels and a rope handle to a large tote to put her items in while shopping.  I thought it was a great idea and it would work great for storage between sales!

Just so you know my “sale baby” will turn two a few days before the Croton sale and I learned a little lesson with him and my procrastination isn’t AS bad.  Anyone else out there feel as unorganized as I do sometimes?

The only tips I have is, I already have everything hung up on hangers! I have already decided what I wanted to keep together, like selling 3 pajama sleepers as 1. AND I keep everything seperated by sizes/gender. This way when I am entering in inventory, I don’t have to keep changing the size/gender. I can just type the description and price and move on til I have all those sizes completely done. I have been trying to think of easier ways to get all the stuff I want to sell in one place. I can’t seem to keep my “hubby” on the same page about the clothes that no longer fit. He just throws them in the hamper, which just get washed and put back in the drawers or closet until I try to put it on the kids, realizing it doesn’t fit. Then I find myself digging through each kids clothes every couple months trying on outfit after outfit. Any easier ideas there??

With the Hilliard sale, I am now done with fall consignment, so I will start preparing for spring! As my daughter outgrows her summer clothes, I will hang them in our spare closet in the den, which is where everything hangs until sale time. Nothing goes into storage tubs, only to be hung later, as it just creates an extra step. The only thing I won’t hang yet is sweaters/knits, as I don’t want them to stretch.

Also, this time, I made myself enter 10 tags a day, which really seemed to help keep me on task and make it more manageable.

    Good luck!
